Our Story

From Part-Time Venture to Full-Time Legacy

Paul Bunyan’s Tree Service began humbly in 1976 when Tim began to do tree work as a part time venture in conjunction with his job at the Kroger warehouse. When Tim and Linda Hullett married in 1986, they began to work on turning Tim’s venture in tree work into a full business. In 1990, they took the leap to go full‑time, funding their own growth and slowly adding used equipment like a chip truck, chippers, and stump grinders.

The business was incorporated in 1991 and run from their home in Blue Ridge, VA. As word spread and demand grew, they purchased their current location in Roanoke City in 1997. Linda continued working another job and even started a freight auditing business while running the books and front office for Paul Bunyan. Tim expanded the fleet with larger equipment, including their first new bucket truck, which opened the door to larger and more complex jobs.

Where We Are Today

Certified Expertise, Modern Equipment, and Family Leadership

Today, Paul Bunyan’s Tree Service is a fully licensed and insured tree company with all the equipment, resources, and crew needed to handle any project. Our company is also a part of the Tree Care Industry Association (TCIA), the Virginia Urban Forest Council, “SWaM” certified, and we continue to be a member of the ISA.

Tim serves as President, Linda as Vice President, and their son Mitchell — who grew up in the business, attended forestry school at Dabney Lancaster, and became an ISA Certified Arborist — Mitchell now manages day‑to‑day operations.

Both Tim and Mitchell are ISA Certified Arborists, and in recent years, we’ve added two grapple saws to our operation, making even the toughest removals safer and more efficient.

We started small, and while our capabilities have grown tremendously, we remain proud to be a family‑run small business rooted in hard work, integrity, and exceptional service.
